Whitney’s Feeling and Looking Good!
Gospel’s Karen Clark Sheard likely to play Aretha “Queen of Soul”
Aretha Franklin is reportedly in final negotiations with gospel superstar Karen Clark Sheard to star in the music legend’s biopic, “Aretha: From These Roots,” according to Black Voices. The movie’s title is from Franklin’s 1999 autobiography of the same name. Franklin, 68, revealed during an interview on the nationally syndicated “Tom Joyner Morning Show” that Clark Sheard of the Clark Sisters will play the leading role. “We’re working and finalizing negotiations on that now,” Franklin said. Rumors about who would play the Grammy-winning singer and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer ran rampant. Names like Oscar winners Halle Berry and Jennifer Hudson were bounced around. Franklin and Clark Sheard also recorded a duet that will appear on Franklin’s forthcoming R&B album, “A Woman Falling Out of Love,” which is schedule to be released in May. From The Detroit News:

Legendary American pop singer Whitney Houston was hospitalized in a Paris, France hospital for a respiratory infectionafter having to cancel the opening dates of a European tour that has gotten off to a troubled start. The tour was hoped to be the springboard of a major comeback for Houston. She was one of the top pop singers in the United States during the 1980’s and 1990’s.
Houston was scheduled for a Tuesday concert in Paris but had to cancel out due to the illness. Doctors told her that she could not perform and needed to rest in order to achieve a full recovery. Upcoming concerts in the English city of Manchester for Thursday and Friday and in the Scottish city of Glasgow on Sunday have also been cancelled. The hope is that Houston will be able to play a concert in Birmingham, England next Tuesday, which would re-launch her European tour.
Houston was being treated in an American hospital located in Neuilly, which is an exclusive Paris suburb where many French celebrities reside. Houston had previously been treated there five years ago for gastroenteritis. The comeback tour is called “Nothing But Love” and began at the end of 2009. Houston had sold 170 million records and seemed destined to remain a star indefinitely but her admission to using drugs and her abusive relationship with ex-husband Bobby Brown had devastating effects on her career.
Houston ended a 7-year absence from recording studios and tours with an album called “I Look to You” last year that, while well received, was poorly promoted. Her tour has had embarrassments such as her stumbling on the stage in Moscow last December while singing “I Will Always Love You” and last February in Austria when fans stormed out due to Houston’s flat singing and struggles for breath.

Singer Whitney Houston is being treated in hospital in Paris with nose and throat problems, reports claim.
The report by the AFP news agency comes after the I’m Every Woman star postponed a concert in the French capital, the first date of her European tour, after suffering a respiratory illness.
And now her planned shows in Manchester on April 8th and 9th have been rescheduled, the Manchester Evening News Arena announced on its website.
“Whitney is suffering from an upper respiratory infection and after a consultation with her doctors has been advised to postpone her performances,” the arena said in a statement.
“Whitney and her band apologise that the shows have had to be rescheduled on such short notice.”
Houston’s Manchester shows will be rescheduled for June 16th and 17th, but her Glasgow show on April 11th is still set to go ahead, according to her official website.
The I Will Always Love You singer’s health issues follow a difficult run for Houston since releasing I Look to You in 2009, her first album in seven years.
The 46-year-old seemed dishevelled during her promotional appearance on The X Factor while some attendees of a February show in Brisbane, Australia, complained Houston had been unable to reach several high notes.

Whitney Houston The Diva

Whitney Houston hasn’t had the best of times recently. Only days ago, her lawyer was forced to rebuff rumors that the former “crack is whack” star was on her way to rehab. And this mere weeks after some Aussie fans expressed their displeasure about The Voice not being able to hit those high notes in ‘I Will Always Love You’ during her recent world tour. Here comes a perfect opportunity, therefore, to blow away the negativity with a standout track from last year’s well-received comeback album I Look To You.
The synthy backing is sharp and bouncy enough to sound bang-up-to-date, but it’s also classy as hell, saving Houston from even the slightest hint of the granny-in-a-short-skirt indignity that some futurepop-chasing veterans have faced. Instead, we get a fabulous melody and nu-Whitney’s still more-than-capable voice twisting around some fine lyrics about havin’ nothin’ but love for all – family, teachers, lovers and exes alike (“For anyone who tried to hate on me / Even the ones who tried to break me / Even the ones who tried to take me down”). If anything, her now slightly-husky tones lend more passion and feeling than the flawless soaring of her heyday. A modern Whitney classic.

A rep for Whitney Houston is blasting a tabloid report that the R&B star is in rehab for drug use.
“The National Enquirer continuously publishes false, fabricated and malicious stories about Whitney Houston, including the latest cover story with the headline, saying it’s ‘Rehab For Whitney.’ Whitney is not headed to rehab she is headed to Paris, where she will be continuing her world tour,” a rep for Houston said in a statement toAccess Hollywood. Whitney Houston’s lawyer is fuming over reports that the star is heading back to rehab after allegedly collapsing backstage at a recent concert – he’s branded the claims “ridiculous.”
The R&B superstar’s Nothing But Love tour has been marred by complaints after the singer struggled to get through several of her shows, seemingly finding it hard to breath and disappearing backstage for several minutes at a time.
The star’s rep insisted Houston’s breathing difficulties were caused by smoking cigarettes, and denied allegations she had returned to using crack cocaine.
The star’s tour received more bad press when the National Enquirer alleged the singer had collapsed, and had been persuaded to enter a rehabilitation center to battle her issues. Read the rest of this entry »
